Satellite Images Show Russia’s Top Su-57 Fighter Jet Damaged in a Ukrainian Attack
Ukrainian intelligence claims to have destroyed a Russian Su-57 fighter jet on June 8. The attack reportedly occurred at Akhtubinsk airfield, deep inside Russia’s Astrakhan region, nearly 590 kilometers from the current fighting in Ukraine.
Satellite imagery shows the Su-57 undamaged on June 7th, but with clear explosion craters and fire marks on June 8, supporting the Ukrainian claim.
“There is also information about irrecoverable losses and wounded among the occupiers' personnel,” according to military intelligence spokesperson Andrii Yusov.
The Su-57 is Russia’s most advanced fighter jet and can carry Kh-59 and Kh-69 missiles. However, only a small number of these aircraft are currently in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Earlier in May, Ukrainian forces were reported to have downed several Su-25 fighter jets.
