Russian Base Goes Up in Flames in Occupied Mariupol—Here’s What We Know

On March 23, Ukrainian partisans carried out an operation targeting a Russian military base in occupied Mariupol, resulting in the destruction of several vehicles and ammunition belonging to Russian forces.
According to Petro Andriushchenko, advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, members of the local resistance group “Mariupol Resistance” set fire to a Russian military parking site located on the right bank of the city. The incident was later confirmed by the Mariupol City Council.
The partisans reportedly located the base using publicly available images shared online by two local bloggers. The photos revealed key details that allowed resistance members to identify the base’s location and security weaknesses.
The fire led to the destruction of multiple military vehicles and Russian ammunition stockpiles. The operation marks another instance of coordinated partisan activity in occupied territories aimed at disrupting Russian military logistics.
Earlier, on the night of February 28, a car explosion in occupied Mariupol targeted a vehicle reportedly used by a Russian FSB officer. According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, the blast injured the officer, who was likely hospitalized. Local authorities attributed the attack to the Ukrainian resistance.
