SBU Foils Russian Espionage Plot at Ukrainian Defense Plant in Mykolaiv Region

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), in cooperation with the Ministry of Defenіe of Ukraine, has exposed and neutralized another instance of Russian infiltration into a defense industrial complex facility in Ukraine.
According to SBU on October 23, as a result of comprehensive operations in the Mykolaiv region, an industrial lab assistant and a fitter at a defense plant were detained. The investigation established that both individuals were working for Russian military intelligence.
The investigation established that the operatives functioned independently yet pursued commensurate objectives. Their duties involved the illicit transfer of geolocation data for production facilities and comprehensive details pertaining to the security infrastructure of the strategic enterprise to the Russian forces.
Russian special services also attempted to gather information regarding the types and status of defense contracts being fulfilled by the enterprise.
Furthermore, the suspects routinely furnished their handler with intelligence concerning the outcomes of combined missile and drone strikes targeting the port city, alongside monitoring and reporting the precise deployment locations of Ukrainian military units.
SBU officers uncovered the Russian intelligence activity and detained both agents while they were on shift.
According to SBU, both individuals initially attracted the attention of Russian military intelligence after publishing anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels. During searches, smartphones containing media files and coordinates of defense facilities—which Russian forces were preparing to strike—were seized from the detainees.
The perpetrators remain in custody without the right to bail and face a sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Earlier, SBU uncovered a FSB agent who was preparing to carry out terrorist attacks across northern Ukraine.
