Serbia’s Football Fans Fervently Support Russia, as UEFA Bans Russian Flags at Euro 2024 Matches
UEFA aims to prevent the display of Russian flags at the stadium during Ukraine’s first European Championship match on Monday.
Security personnel will actively intercept and remove any Russian flags at the Munich stadium during Ukraine’s match against Romania in the Euro 2024 group stage.
While Russia’s national teams are banned from UEFA competitions due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, individual Russian citizens could still attend Euro 2024 matches.
This follows incidents where such flags were shown in the stands at other games. During Serbia’s game against England on June 16 in Gelsenkirchen, several Russian flags were also observed among Serbian fans.
Serbian football fans where also recorded shouting ‘Vladimir Putin’ following the match.
Serbia is widely regarded as one of Russia’s strongest allies in Europe.
