Seven women who were serving time in prison signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine reported that the women expressed their desire to undergo military service under a contract in exchange for parole.

They successfully passed the military medical commission and received the consent of the commanders of military units to serve in specific units of the Defense Forces.

"The law on the mobilization of convicted persons adopted by the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian Parliament] provides the possibility of joining the army not only for men but also for women. However, previously convicted women did not show a desire for mobilization. We currently have a decision on the first 7 convicts who decided to sign a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine," said Deputy Minister of Justice Olena Vysotska.

Overall, since the entry into force of the Ukrainian law, which regulates the right of convicts to mobilize and participate in the state's defense, 6101 convicts have expressed their desire to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

3,823 people have already left prisons for training.
