Shoigu Accuses West of Trying to Exploit Ethnic Divisions, Calls Russia “Spiritually Strong”

Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu accused Western countries of seeking to divide Russia into “dozens of small states,” describing it as an alleged effort to strip the country of its sovereignty. Writing in Argumenty i Fakty, a state-run newspaper on October 28, Shoigu claimed that the West’s ultimate goal was to “subjugate Russia to its will, exploit it, and use it for selfish interests.”
According to Shoigu, Western governments have launched a “massive anti-Russian propaganda campaign” aimed at undermining the country’s history, culture, and what he called its “spiritual values.”
He said these actions were designed to “drive a wedge” between Russia’s ethnic groups and its allies within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Shoigu insisted that attempts to exploit Russia’s ethnic diversity would fail, arguing that the West “does not understand the nature of Russian interethnic relations or the moral and spiritual strength” that he said unites the country’s many nationalities.
This unity, he added, enables Russia to “confidently resist destructive geopolitical technologies.”
Previously, it was reported that on the Pokrovsk front, Ukrainian forces captured a Russian soldier belonging to the Ket ethnic group—one of the smallest Indigenous peoples in the Russian Federation. The capture was reported by the “Svoboda” battalion of the National Guard brigade “Rubizh.”
