“An Agricultural Hormuz”: Zelenskyy Warns Russia’s Sea Blockade Risks Global Famine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced during the Yalta European Strategy 2026 conference that Russia has blocked the grain corridor in the Black Sea, intensifying the threat of a global food crisis that requires immediate decision-making.

The overall prolongation of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine presents a major challenge for nations across the globe, as food transportation routes from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides remain largely obstructed.

Ukrainian citizens will not face food shortages, but domestic producers will experience significant difficulties. Grain prices inside Ukraine will drop because export options will become costly, sales infrastructure will grow complex, and logistics will be severely disrupted.

The broader international impact poses a much heavier burden on other nations that depend on these imports. Zelenskyy noted that he held discussions with leadership in Egypt, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates regarding the situation.

He emphasized that several countries will struggle to secure food supplies regardless of their financial resources, comparing the agricultural blockade to a strategic maritime bottleneck.

"Today we have a blocked food corridor. It is almost blocked from the Ukrainian side and blocked from the Russian side. And this is a challenge for everyone," Zelenskyy said.
