The film secured the top spot in the “Digital Journalism” category.

Filmed in October 2025, the documentary follows the “Syla Svobody” (Force of Freedom) battalion of the National Guard’s “Rubizh” Brigade. It provides an immersive look at a single day of operations for Ukrainian soldiers working on the front lines.

“This was the only nomination related to Ukraine,” Safarov stated. “I am very happy for our military. This award is, first and foremost, their merit.”

The ceremony, held in London, was attended by producers Katie Scholes and Azad Safarov. Other members of the production team were unable to attend the event as they were away on assignment near Iran.

The global acclaim for Ukrainian stories extends beyond the small screen, as international critics continue to place war-focused cinema at the top of their year-end rankings. The Guardian recently released its list of the 50 best films of 2025, with 2000 Meters to Andriivka—the latest documentary by Oscar-winning filmmaker Mstyslav Chernov—securing the second-place spot.

In its commentary, the publication described the film as a “heartwrenching follow-up to 20 Days in Mariupol.” In this project, photojournalist Chernov chronicles the brutal and exhausting counteroffensive of Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade, capturing the raw reality of the struggle to reclaim occupied territory.

Earlier, the 2026 BBC Audio Drama Awards has named Unborn for War the winner in the “Best European Drama” category.
