Danish authorities are investigating reports of nearly 20 drones observed flying over Køge Port, located southwest of Copenhagen. The incident, which occurred late on Friday, January 3, has raised questions about the drones' origin and purpose.

According to Danish police, officers were dispatched to the site around 10:30 PM following a report from a witness who claimed to have seen a large number of drones near the yacht harbor. Upon arrival, police confirmed the presence of four large drones over the port area. The remaining drones, reportedly totaling up to 20, had already left the vicinity at high speed, disappearing over Køge Bay.

Michael Sehested, Deputy Inspector of Danish Police, stated:

“At this stage, we do not know where the drones came from or their purpose. We are working with other agencies to gather more information.”

The drones’ flights were deemed unauthorized, as no permits had been issued for the area. The last sighting occurred at approximately 1:16 AM when the drones disappeared over the sea.

Authorities are urging the public to report any information regarding the drones or their operators. Investigators are also exploring potential links between this incident and other recent drone sightings in Denmark.

This investigation takes place amid heightened security concerns across Europe, with increased vigilance due to ongoing hybrid threats and the war in Ukraine. Danish police have underscored the importance of determining the origin and intent of the drones, citing the broader context of regional security.

Earlier, unidentified drones were spotted near key military sites in Europe, including the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier docked in Hamburg, Germany, and the Lakenheath Air Base in the UK. While German authorities failed to intercept the drone near the carrier, the US military deployed F-15E aircraft to monitor drones over Lakenheath.
