The flag of the Syrian opposition has been raised over the Syrian Embassy building in Moscow, according to reports from Russian state agencies’ TASS and RIA Novosti correspondents.
“Today the [Syrian] embassy opened and is working normally under a new flag,” an embassy representative told TASS on December 9.
Additionally, the agency reported that the Syrian Baath regime's flag was removed from the flagpole at the Syrian Embassy in Belarus on December 9.
It was previously reported that Russian authorities offered asylum to former Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad and his family, as stated by a Kremlin source. At the same time, Ukraine's Defense Intelligence has refuted claims of Assad's death in a plane crash, labeling them as disinformation.
On December 8, Syrian opposition forces declared the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad after capturing Damascus, bringing an end to more than five decades of authoritarian rule under the Assad dynasty.
