Tomahawks to Ukraine Would Be Intercepted — and Launchers Destroyed, Kremlin-Aligned Lawmaker Claims

Russia will shoot down Tomahawk cruise missiles and bomb any launch sites if the US supplies them to Ukraine, Andrei Kartapolov, head of the Russian parliament’s defense committee, told the state Reuters news agency on Wednesday 8.
Kartapolov said Moscow would also seek ways to “hurt those who cause us trouble,” characterising any response as “tough, ambiguous, measured, and asymmetrical.”
US President Donald Trump told reporters earlier this week he wanted to know how Ukraine would employ Tomahawk missiles before agreeing to provide them because he did not want to escalate the war; he added he had “sort of made a decision” on the matter.

Kartapolov said the missiles would likely be supplied in “tens rather than hundreds” and argued they would not alter battlefield dynamics substantially.
“We know these missiles very well, how they fly, how to shoot them down; we worked with them in Syria, so there is nothing new,” Kartapolov said, warning that the primary consequences would fall on “those who supply them and those who use them.”
He added that Moscow had found no evidence that Ukraine was preparing launch sites and said that if Ukraine received Tomahawks and prepared launchers, Russia would use drones and missiles to destroy those launchers.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov urged Washington to consider the implications “soberly,” saying any decision to supply Tomahawks would be a serious escalatory step that would bring a “qualitative” change in the situation.
Earlier, it was reported that US President Donald Trump confirmed the United States will supply Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles under US operational control.
