US President Donald Trump suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin may not be interested in ending the war in Ukraine, following his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rome.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that there was no justification for Russia’s recent missile strikes on Ukrainian cities and towns, raising concerns about Putin’s true intentions.

“With all of that being said, there was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through ‘Banking’ or ‘Secondary Sanctions’? Too many people are dying!!!” Trump wrote.

Trump also criticized media reports suggesting that Ukraine must regain its territories, including Crimea, to end the war. He accused “the very biased and untalented writer for The Times,” Peter Baker, of following editorial instructions to advocate for the return of Crimea.

Trump stated: “Ukraine should get back territory, including, I suppose, Crimea, and other ridiculous requests, in order to stop the killing that is worse than anything since World War II.”

Trump further pointed out that, during his presidency, he provided Ukraine with Javelin missiles early on, contrasting it with what he described as Obama’s policy of providing only “sheets.” He also challenged the media’s portrayal of the situation, stating:

“No matter what deal I make with respect to Russia/Ukraine, no matter how good it is, even if it’s the greatest deal ever made, The Failing New York Times will speak BADLY of it.”

Trump’s remarks were made as he returned to the United States after attending the funeral of Pope Francis in Italy, where he held talks with Zelenskyy amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
