US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would cut short his participation in the G7 summit in Canada to return to Washington amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
This was reported by CNN on June 17.
“I have to be back. Very important,” Trump said, addressing summit host and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. “Great host. He did a fantastic job.”
The president added, “But you probably see what I see. And I have to be back as soon as I can.”

According to CNN, Trump was scheduled to depart Monday evening, a day earlier than planned. White House officials cited the need to deal with urgent matters back home.
“I have to be back early for obvious reasons. They understand. This is big stuff,” Trump emphasized.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump was set to hold bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the G7 summit in Canada, a US government official confirmed ahead of the summit’s official opening in Kananaskis.
