A 62-year-old US citizen was killed in his sleep during a Russian drone attack on Kyiv, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on June 17.

The victim, identified as Grendy Frederick Glenn, died after sustaining severe injuries from the strike, including a penetrating head and chest wound and an open fracture of the left shoulder.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the death, saying the American citizen died inside an apartment building in the Solomianskyi district—just across from the site where medics were treating other victims of the overnight attack.

“During the attack on Kyiv in the Solomianskyi district, a 62-year-old US citizen died in a building across the street from where medics were providing aid to the injured,” Klitschko stated.

Paramedics who arrived on the scene pronounced the man dead on arrival, recording what they described as a case of “biological death” due to the extent of the injuries.

In the same neighborhood, emergency crews from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service rescued another person who had been trapped under debris following the missile strike that partially destroyed a multi-story residential building.

The Russian drone and missile barrage caused extensive damage across Kyiv, with several neighborhoods reporting casualties and infrastructure damage.

In total, at least 14 people were killed and more than 114 injured across the capital. At least five residents remain missing.

Earlier, a Russian missile strike on Kyiv caused significant damage to an office building used by Boeing.
