US President Donald Trump on October 14 emphasized Ukraine’s request for Tomahawk cruise missiles as he prepares to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House later this week.

“I know what he has to say. He wants weapons. He would like to have Tomahawks,” Trump said, adding that the US has “a lot of Tomahawks” and could send them if the war is not resolved.

Trump also expressed frustration with Russian leader Vladimir Putin for not ending the war.

"I'm very disappointed, because Vladimir and I had a very good relationship. Probably still do. I don't know why he continues with this war. This war has been so bad for him," he said.

Trump warned of the war’s economic and human costs.

“They have long lines waiting for gasoline in Russia right now, and his economy is under pressure,” he said.

He also highlighted the human toll: “He has probably lost about 1.5 million soldiers, many wounded, without legs or arms — everything that happens in terrible wars. This is a horrible war, the greatest tragedy in terms of casualties since World War II.”

Zelenskyy is expected to visit Washington on October 17 to discuss Ukraine’s security needs and ongoing support.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is considering three possible ways to finance the purchase of Tomahawk missiles: through NATO’s PURL program, a major deal with the United States, and the use of frozen Russian assets.
