Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is planning to travel to Davos on Thursday, Jan. 22, for a meeting with US President Donald Trump, as White House envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner prepare to head to Moscow the same day to meet the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, according to Axios on January 21.

Axios said both meetings are expected to focus on Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine, adding that the US is close to agreement with Ukraine on the plan’s terms but has had limited success in securing Moscow’s acceptance, and that Russia’s failure to accept a 20-point plan was a factor in the White House’s decision not to sign a separate “prosperity plan”  for Ukraine during the World Economic Forum in Davos this week.

Witkoff said that he and Kushner would meet Putin on Thursday, and the Kremlin later confirmed the meeting.

Witkoff and Kushner met Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Davos on Tuesday to discuss the US peace plan, with Witkoff describing the talks as “very positive” and Dmitriev calling them “constructive,” Reuters said.

Axios also said the US informed Zelenskyy’s team about the plan to travel to Moscow.

Trump told a World Economic Forum audience in Davos that “we’re reasonably close” to a deal to end the war.”

"I believe they're at a point now where they can come together and get a deal done. And if they don't, they're stupid," he said, referring to the Russian and Ukrainian leaders.

Earlier, it was reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump were expected to meet in Davos to finalize a large US–Ukraine recovery-focused agreement and a separate framework tied to post-war security guarantees.
