US President Donald Trump stated that his administration is engaged in discussions with Ukraine, Russia, and other parties. Trump made the remarks late on February 2, as reported by RFE/RL.

“We're dealing with Ukraine and Russia,” he said. “We have meetings and talks scheduled with various parties, including Ukraine and Russia. And I think those discussions are actually going pretty well.”

Earlier, Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, stated that both sides would need to make concessions if they hoped to reach a settlement to the war.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already indicated he will soften his position on land,” Kellogg stated. “And [Russian leader] Putin is going to have to soften his positions as well.”

“We're going to have discussions with everybody over time, and probably in the near term. And it's good for both sides,” he added.

Previously, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a recent interview with journalist Megyn Kelly on January 30, stated that neither Ukraine nor Russia is likely to achieve their maximalist goals as a result of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. He emphasized that reaching peace will require substantial effort and compromise from both sides.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that any negotiations between the United States and Russia on ending the war that do not include Ukraine would be “very dangerous for everyone.”
