Trump’s USAID Freeze Hits Poland’s Largest Refugee Center for Ukrainians

Poland’s largest aid center for Ukrainian refugees, Mapuj Pomoc, has lost its funding following the suspension of support from USAID, a decision initiated by US President Donald Trump.
This was reported by Polskie Radio on February 13.
“Due to the sudden suspension of USAID support, we are working to find new forms of assistance,” Iwona Górka from Mapuj Pomoc told Polish Radio. “We are trying to determine what we can do here and now. Unlocking these funds is crucial, and we are working on that. Engaging in dialogue with key partners is a priority. We are also exploring discussions with senators and the government to find alternative funding and support options.”
Donald Trump’s executive order, signed on January 20, suspends all international aid programs for 90 days. The decision is aimed at aligning spending with a policy that prioritizes US interests.
On February 10, Reuters reported that the Trump administration’s freeze on foreign aid was beginning to impact international efforts to hold Russia accountable for war crimes in Ukraine.
According to Ukraine’s Parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy report, dated January 29, the Ukrainian parliament started seeking alternatives to USAID funding.
