The General Staff stated that officials are still assessing the extent of the damage to both frigates. It also noted that analysis is continuing into possible damage to other warships and support vessels at the base.

The strike was part of a broader Ukrainian attack on Russian military targets in the port area.

“Systematic strikes on the enemy’s military infrastructure and military-industrial complex facilities will continue until the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine is fully stopped,” the General Staff stated.

Earlier, the Russian frigate Admiral Essen sustained critical damage during a strike on the port of Novorossiysk, with reports saying a major onboard fire burned for many hours and severely affected the ship’s combat readiness.

The vessel was described as no longer able to launch Kalibr cruise missiles after the incident, with damage assessments indicating the strike significantly degraded its operational capability in the Black Sea.
