Emma Klochkovа, a two-year-old girl from Odesa, has become the youngest child in Ukraine to swim a 25-meter distance in a pool. The achievement, verified by the National Register of Records of Ukraine, took her 3 minutes and 29 seconds to complete.
The record-setting attempt was supervised by Emma’s coach, Ilona Harkun, who submitted the application to the registry. Lana Vietrova, the head of the National Register of Records, highlighted the complexity of preparing a child for such a performance, emphasizing the significant role of the coach in achieving this milestone.
“Coaching a child for a record requires immense effort. Ilona Harkun successfully managed this challenge,” Vietrova stated.
According to the National Register of Records, early swimming is one of the most competitive categories for record-setting in Ukraine. Since 2018, Ukrainian children have achieved six records in this field, with most of the record holders coming from Odesa.
“Each year, children participating in this category are getting younger, and Odesa leads with the highest number of records in this field,” Vietrova noted. She added that despite ongoing challenges in the country, families continue to invest in their children’s development, enabling them to achieve notable milestones.
On the day of the record attempt, Emma initially showed reluctance to enter the water. After encouragement from her coach, she completed the swim across an adult pool. Her performance received applause from everyone present, and she later repeated the distance twice on different lanes.
