Ukraine Secures Medals at the 2024 Paralympics: New Achievements in Swimming
On August 30, 2024, at the Paralympic Games in Paris, Ukraine earned several medals in swimming, including two silvers and one gold.
Iryna Poida from Dnipropetrovsk secured her second personal silver medal of the Games. She first won silver in the 200 meters freestyle in the S5 class. Later that evening, Poida added another silver to her collection, finishing second in the 100 meters freestyle in the same class. These achievements contribute to Ukraine’s overall success in swimming at the 2024 Paralympics.
Olexandr Komarov also continued Ukraine’s strong performance in swimming. The athlete won the gold medal in the 100 meters freestyle in the S5 class, setting a new Paralympic record with a time of 1:07.77 minutes. This marks Ukraine’s first gold in this event since 2008. Earlier on August 29, Komarov had won bronze in the 200 meters freestyle.
Currently, Ukraine has secured seven medals at the 2024 Paralympics: one gold, three silvers, and three bronzes. The country’s strong showing, particularly in swimming, underscores its competitive performance at these Games.
