The United Kingdom is providing £35 million (over $44 million) in emergency aid to Ukraine to help restore its energy grid, according to the UK government's press service released on December 17.

£20 million (around $25,4 million) from the funding package will address emergency energy needs, support for essential repairs to the electricity transmission network, and additional power generation capacity along with critical protection for energy infrastructure.

Specifically, the package includes a project to generate an additional 20 MW of electricity, enough to power 20,000 homes.

An additional £15 million (around $19 million) will deliver lifesaving humanitarian aid to those most in need as temperatures in Ukraine drop, while £5 million will be allocated to UNICEF for essential supplies.

£10 million ($12,7 million) will be provided through the UNHCR  to assist over 21,000 families with rapid thermal kits, shelter repairs, and additional cash payments for winter. The funds will also supply generators and support the winterization of collective centers housing vulnerable people displaced by Russian aggression.

At the same time, on December 17, the UK imposed new sanctions on Russia's energy sector, including 20 vessels from its shadow fleet.
