The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions against 10 Russian officials and youth organizations connected to the deportation and ideological indoctrination of Ukrainian children, the UK government announced on November 19.

“No child should ever be used as a pawn in war, yet Putin’s targeting of Ukrainian children shows the depths he will go to in his mission to erase Ukraine and its people from the map,” said UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy.

“As Ukraine reaches the grim milestone of 1000 days of bravely defending against Putin’s illegal invasion, the UK’s support is iron-clad. With our international partners, we stand with Ukraine to confront Russian aggression and fight for freedom, liberty, and victory,” he added.

Among those sanctioned is Yunarmiya, a militarized Russian patriotic youth organization that has played a central role in President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to forcibly deport and indoctrinate Ukrainian children.

The sanctions also target the military-patriotic sports camp Avangard in Russia’s Volgograd region, where deported Ukrainian children were taken.

Tatiana Zavalskaya, appointed by Russia as head of a Kherson orphanage, is included in the list for overseeing the forced transfer of 46 children from Ukraine to Russia for adoption.

Additionally, Vitaly Suk, director of the Olekshky boarding school for children with disabilities in Kherson, was sanctioned for using his position to unlawfully take Ukrainian children with disabilities away from the city.

Earlier, Russian forces reportedly organized a fundraiser under the guise of “volunteering” to support their war efforts against Ukraine in schools of the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.
