The United Kingdom has pledged a new military assistance package for Ukraine valued at £1 billion ($1.3 billion), with funding drawn from interest accrued on frozen Russian sovereign assets, Deutsche Welle reported on September 3.

“Britain’s national security begins in Ukraine,” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized, noting that the UK has already allocated £4.5 billion ($5.9 billion) for Ukraine’s military support this year.

The package includes hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, hundreds of air-defense missiles, spare parts for military equipment, and contracts for maintenance and repair of vehicles.

Over the past 50 days alone, the UK has supplied Ukraine with 4.7 million rounds of small arms ammunition, 60,000 artillery shells, rockets and missile systems, more than 2,500 drones, over 200 electronic warfare systems, 100 light weapons, 30 vehicles, and additional counter-drone and air defense equipment.

During his recent visit to Kyiv, John Healey, the current UK Secretary of State for Defense also co-chaired an online meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, attended by representatives of over 30 countries.

The discussions focused on the possible deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine should a peace agreement with Russia be reached. Healey added that the UK is reviewing army readiness levels and accelerating funding to prepare for potential deployments.

Earlier, it was reported that the UK is preparing to send military forces to Ukraine once the war ends, including commitments of aircraft, naval vessels, and ground troops—all kept confidential to avoid benefiting Moscow.
