Ukraine has reached full alignment with the European Union’s foreign, security, and defense policy, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that Ukraine’s alignment with the EU’s foreign policy declarations and decisions reached 95% in 2024 and has increased to 100% in the early months of 2025.

This development was confirmed following a legislative screening conducted by the EU in March, which examined Ukrainian laws under the chapter “Foreign, Security, and Defense Policy.”

The ministry noted that this milestone reflects Ukraine’s continued efforts to harmonize its foreign and defense policy with that of the European Union. It is also viewed as a significant step forward in Ukraine’s EU accession process.

As Ukraine moves through the EU’s acquis screening process, the next key stage involves the opening of the negotiation cluster “External Relations.” According to the MFA, this will lay the groundwork for further progress in Ukraine’s accession talks.
