Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set a new target for domestic drone manufacturers: producing at least 1,000 interceptor drones daily to strengthen national air defenses. He made the statement during a July 25 visit to a drone production facility.

“I spoke today with the producers of interceptor drones. I visited the facility, thanked the team, and saw how protection is being built for our cities and villages, for our people,” Zelenskyy said in an official address.

“Ukraine is capable of producing excellent technology and is maintaining its leadership in protecting lives.”

Government officials have been tasked with ensuring all contracts are in place, and efforts with international partners are ongoing to prevent any funding shortages.

“The government is handling the contracting, and we are constantly working with partners to ensure there is no deficit in financing,” the president noted.

The emphasis on domestic capacity aligns with earlier statements from Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who in June described the development of multiple interceptor drone platforms, including both ground-based and airborne systems designed to engage hostile drones and missiles.

“Several types of interceptors are in production,” Fedorov stated, “and the systems are already being used at the front”.

Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine’s industrial defense potential is contributing to a broader European defense effort. “Ukrainian production potential is part of the collective strength of Europeans,” he said. “Thanks to all who are building this strength.”

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine has awarded four state contracts totaling over $71 million to scale up drone interceptor capabilities, formalizing collaboration between government agencies, private-sector firms, volunteer organizations, and banks.
