Kyiv Launches Full Drone Interception System to Shield Capital from Russian Attacks

Kyiv is launching a new interception system designed to neutralize Russian UAVs targeting the capital.
The initiative was announced by the Kyiv City Military Administration on July 11 and is being implemented under the directive of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This marks the expansion of the large-scale “Chyste Nebo” project, aimed at strengthening air defense using domestically produced interceptor drones. A total of $6.5 million has been allocated for its implementation.

The funding will be used not only to purchase equipment but also to build a comprehensive response system.
This includes establishing a dedicated training center for drone operators, forming mobile units that will remain on standby in Kyiv and its surrounding areas, and ensuring close coordination with the General Staff, the Air Force, and other branches of the Defense Forces to achieve maximum synergy with the country’s existing air defense infrastructure.
According to the administration, the pilot phase of the Chyste Nebo project in the Kyiv region has already proven effective—nearly 550 Russian Shahed drones have been intercepted since its launch.
“This is not just a statistic—it means saved lives, protected schools, hospitals, critical infrastructure, and the energy sector,” the statement emphasized.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian interceptor drones under the “Dronopad” initiative have destroyed over 2,000 Russian UAVs—including at least 17 Shahed drones—using domestically developed FPV interceptor systems, with minimal cost compared to conventional air defense munitions.
