Ukrainian Developers Create Air-Launched FPV Interceptor Drones, Video

Ukrainian company Justifier Drones has unveiled a new type of FPV interceptor drone designed to launch mid-air from a carrier drone. This innovation aims to significantly extend the operational range and altitude of drone interceptions.
A recently shared video shows the preparation and launch process of the so-called “mothership drone,” which carries two airborne FPV interceptors.
Unlike traditional quadcopters, the interceptor drone has a streamlined, rocket-like design, equipped with four propellers instead of a rocket engine. Its shape is reminiscent of the Sting interceptor drone, previously used in defense operations.
While technical specifications have not been publicly disclosed, the drone is expected to be capable of intercepting reconnaissance UAVs. Launching from a carrier drone solves a major limitation of ground-launched quadcopter interceptors—limited range.
The mothership can remain airborne and on standby, reducing reaction time. Interceptors launched mid-flight already possess altitude and speed, making them more efficient in targeting enemy drones.

Earlier this year, in April 2025, Ukrainian forces presented one of their interceptor drones to a Belgian delegation. By mid-May, footage surfaced showing an interceptor drone successfully targeting a Russian-Iranian Shahed drone.
Ukraine’s Darknode unit, part of the 412th “Nemesis” regiment, has reportedly destroyed over 100 Shahed and Geran drones using interceptors as of May 2025.
Previously, it was reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces officially approved the Chief-1 unmanned aerial system for operational use, as reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
