The Ukrainian Armed Forces have officially approved the Chief-1 unmanned aerial system for operational use, as reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense on June 4.

Designed to target enemy aircraft and personnel, the domestically produced combat drone has been codified by the Ministry, which released initial details about the system.

The Chief-1 is a copter-type drone with a lightweight yet durable frame, powerful engines, high maneuverability, and a design optimized for aerial combat.

It is equipped with a twin-barrel module that fires buckshot rounds, making it effective against airborne targets and Russian infantry.

The drone features automatic target recognition and range-finding systems that help it determine the optimal distance for engagement. Its weapons can be fired in both manual and automatic modes.

The Chief-1 is used to destroy enemy FPV strike drones, bombers, and certain reconnaissance and artillery-correcting drones. The Defense Ministry has not disclosed further technical specifications.

Earlier, Ukrainian defense company VARTA has unveiled the DroneHunter, a drone-mounted kinetic interceptor designed to neutralize small and medium-sized Russian UAVs on the battlefield. The system was presented at the Drone Summit 2025 in Riga, as reported by Militarnyi on June 3.
