Ukraine has developed a new multi-purpose strike drone named Batyar, capable of covering distances of over 800 kilometers (497 miles).

The UAV is produced by Ukrainian company DeepStrikeTech, which shared technical details with the military outlet Militarnyi on May 23.

Originally designed as a long-range suicide drone, Batyar has since been upgraded to serve multiple roles. Depending on its payload and software configuration, it can function as a decoy, a bomber, or a frontline suicide drone.

Weighing 60 kilograms (132 pounds) and powered by a gasoline engine, the long-range version of Batyar carries an 18-kilogram (40-pound) warhead.

A key goal of the design was to create a lightweight drone that could be launched from a catapult or vehicle, requiring no prepared airstrips or specialized equipment, reported Militarnyi.

According to its developers, the drone is capable of maintaining its programmed trajectory during a steep dive onto the target—even when damaged.

Though its airframe resembles the Russian-Iranian Shahed drone, the similarity is purely visual. Batyar’s aerodynamics were independently engineered by DeepStrikeTech based largely on Western technical documentation.

Previously, Russian authorities confirmed that the city of Tula—home to several defense industry facilities—came under a sustained drone attack, stated the region’s governor, Dmitry Milyayev, adding that air defense systems were actively engaged throughout the night on May 22.
