Ukraine and Greece Partner to Produce Cutting-Edge Unmanned Surface Vessels for Defense

Following the meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the two countries have announced the initiation of joint production of unmanned surface vessels for Ukraine’s armed forces at Greek shipyards.
This was reported by Kathimerini on November 18.
As part of the project, Greek companies will develop advanced technologies, including the creation of marine drones, which will be used by both Ukraine and Greece to strengthen their defense capabilities.
According to Kathimerini, citing sources familiar with the matter, the production line will be established at Greek shipyards equipped for the development of such systems.

A portion of the production will be allocated to Ukraine, while the remaining part will enhance Greece’s military arsenal. The partnership will result in the construction of various types of unmanned surface vessels, with Ukraine currently producing 15 different models.
The process will also involve Greek companies in the production of electronic and optical systems, sensors, and, if necessary, explosives for the marine drones. The new unmanned vessels will be an upgraded version of the ones already tested in Ukrainian battlefields. If the project progresses successfully, Ukraine and Greece will also discuss further expanding cooperation in the field of unmanned underwater vehicles.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine secured a new gas supply route with Greece to bolster its energy security ahead of the winter season.
