Ukraine and US Make Significant Progress on Minerals Deal, Says Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister

Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Yulia Svyrydenko, announced significant progress in negotiations with the United States on a minerals agreement.
Svyrydenko shared the update on Facebook on April 16.
She described a positive step forward in the negotiations with the United States regarding an economic partnership agreement and the creation of a fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction investments.
“Our technical teams have worked thoroughly together on the agreement—there has been substantial progress, and the lawyers have highlighted the key points in the draft. I thank the negotiators on both teams,” she wrote.
According to Svyrydenko, there is an agreement with the American side to formalize this positive development in a memorandum of understanding.

“We are preparing to finalize the formalization of the agreement in the near future,” the Vice Prime Minister noted.
She also mentioned that the teams will continue to work on specific points in the agreement, although much has already been addressed.
“The agreement will be subject to ratification by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine . It will provide opportunities for investment and development in Ukraine and create conditions for significant economic growth in both Ukraine and the United States,” Svyrydenko explained.
Earlier reports indicated that the United States has scaled back its repayment demands from Ukraine as part of ongoing talks over a broader economic partnership, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg on April 16.
