Zelenskyy Invites Trump to Ukraine to Witness Russia’s War’s Toll Firsthand

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an interview with CBS News, called on US President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine and witness firsthand the consequences of Russia’s invasion.
“We respect your position,” Zelenskyy said, “but, please, before any kind of decisions, any kind of plans for negotiations, come to see the people, civilians, warriors, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead.”
“Come, look, and then let’s move with a plan on how to finish the war. You will understand with whom you have a deal. You will understand what Putin did.”

Zelenskyy gave the interview in his hometown of Kryvyi Rih, just a week after a Russian missile strike killed 19 people, among them, nine children, near a playground.
During his presidential campaign, Trump promised to quickly end the war in Ukraine. Despite announcements of partial ceasefires by the White House, none have materialized.
On the morning of April 13, 2025, Russian forces launched two ballistic missiles at the city center of Sumy, Ukraine. The strike occurred during Palm Sunday when the streets were filled with civilians. According to Ukrainian officials, the attack killed at least 34 people, including two children, and injured 117 others, among them 15 children.
April 11 marked one month since Russia refused to accept a full interim ceasefire proposed by the United States. On March 11, Ukraine unconditionally agreed to the proposal in Jeddah, but Russia rejected it, instead demanding conditions.
