Horrific example of Russia intensifying attacks while Ukraine has accepted an unconditional ceasefire.
My thoughts are with the Ukrainian people today.
“Heartbreaking scenes from Sumy this morning as residents gathered for Palm Sunday only to be met by Russian missiles,” Kallas wrote on X. “Horrific example of Russia intensifying attacks while Ukraine has accepted an unconditional ceasefire.”
According to the Sumy Regional Administration, Russia launched ballistic missiles equipped with cluster munitions on the morning of April 13. One of the missiles detonated mid-air, causing mass casualties in a central area of the city.
The majority of fatalities occurred on a trolleybus, where nearly all passengers were killed. Among the victims were civilians walking in the city center and those traveling by car or public transport.

State Emergency services reported that, 34 people had been confirmed dead, including two children. At least 117 others were injured, among them 15 children. Dozens of buildings and vehicles were damaged or destroyed in the strike.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also commented on the attack, calling it a “horrific strike with ballistic missiles” and urging the international community to respond firmly, stating that talks alone cannot stop such attacks.
