Ukraine Approves New “Svitlovod” FPV Drone for Frontline Use, Built With Fiber-Optic Precision

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has officially codified and approved the domestically produced FPV unmanned aerial system “Svitlovod” for use in the Armed Forces.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense on June 20.

The drones of the “Svitlovod” system are built on a durable frame, equipped with high-performance motors and lightweight, high-capacity batteries. Control is carried out via a fiber-optic channel, ensuring stable communication and enabling the delivery of combat payloads over distances of several dozen kilometers.

The UAVs are fitted with automatic target detection and recognition systems. Depending on the configuration, they can be equipped with either daytime or nighttime cameras. The system can be deployed into combat position within minutes.

According to the Ministry, more than 60 UAV systems with fiber-optic control channels have been approved for military use since the beginning of 2025.

Earlier, several Ukrainian companies have been included in The Defense Post’s latest ranking of the world’s top 100 developers of drone technologies across air, land, and sea domains.

The list spotlights firms leading in innovation, impact, and technological advancement within the rapidly evolving defense industry.
