Ukraine Cautions Against Middle East Escalation Amid Israeli Strikes and Iran’s Support for Russia

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern on June 13 over the escalating security situation in the Middle East, following overnight June 13 Israeli airstrikes on targets within Iran.
In an official statement, Kyiv warned that continued hostilities could further destabilize the region, with far-reaching consequences for international security and global financial stability, particularly in energy markets.
“It is important to avoid further destabilization of the region and to prevent civilian casualties,” the ministry noted.
Ukraine also used the opportunity to highlight Iran’s ongoing military cooperation with Russia, condemning Tehran for supplying weapons used to attack Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.

“The Iranian regime continues to support Russia in its illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. Iran is a source of many problems in the Middle East and beyond,” the statement said.
Kyiv emphasized that restoring peace and stability in the Middle East is in the interest not only of the region but also of the wider international community. It stressed that security in Europe and the Middle East is “directly connected.”
The ministry called on the international community to take coordinated and decisive action to address current global security threats and to contain what it described as an “axis of aggressive regimes” — Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
On June 13, Israel carried out a large-scale air operation against Iran, reportedly targeting key nuclear facilities and killing several senior Iranian officials, including Hossein Salami, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
