Ukraine Confirms Long-Range Drone Attack on Saransk Arms Factory Over 700km Inside Russia

On October 22, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that long-range Ukrainian drones struck the Saransk Mechanical Plant in the Republic of Mordovia, triggering a secondary detonation that damaged an area of approximately 6,500 square meters.
The General Staff said the facility manufactures ammunition components, detonators and initiation units and that the “extent of the damage is being clarified.”
“The enterprise produces anti-personnel engineering ammunition, mining kits, detonators, and initiation units,” the General Staff said in an official statement, adding that “the extent of the damage is being clarified.”
According to Militarnyi, the strike targeted a key section of the plant near the settlement of Atemar, where detonators and explosive charges were assembled, triggering a secondary explosion across several workshops.
Mordovia governor Artyom Zdunov acknowledged that “one of our enterprises sustained damage.”
Emergency services arrived promptly to contain the fire, while local authorities reported no civilian casualties at the initial stage. Footage circulating on Russian social media captured multiple explosions and large fires illuminating the night sky over Saransk.
The current commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Robert Brovdi said that the operation was conducted by the 1st Separate Center of the Drone Forces, formerly the 14th Drone Regiment, which has carried out several long-range strikes on Russian military-industrial targets.
The Saransk Mechanical Plant is part of the Rostec state corporation and lies more than 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Earlier, it was reported that explosions occurred at the Plastmass military plant in the Chelyabinsk region after a reported drone attack, affecting a key producer of artillery munitions.
