Ukraine Destroys Two Rare Russian PRP-4 Recon Vehicles in One Battle, Video

Ukrainian marines have eliminated two of Russia’s rare PRP-4 reconnaissance combat vehicles during a failed armored assault near the city of Myrnohrad in the Pokrovsk sector, according to a video published by the 503rd Separate Marine Battalion “Borsuky” on November 6.
Russian troops attempted to breach Ukrainian defensive lines using the PRP-4s—specialized armored reconnaissance vehicles used to guide artillery fire—but the attack quickly collapsed.

According to the battalion, one of the vehicles struck a mine during the advance, prompting the second to try pushing it off the road. At that moment, Russian troops dismounted and immediately came under attack from Ukrainian drones.
The assault group retreated to a nearby tree line and took cover in trenches, but Ukrainian drones pursued them, dropping munitions until the entire unit was destroyed.
“A total of 26 Russian soldiers were eliminated,” the “Borsuky” unit reported. Both PRP-4s were also destroyed in the engagement.

Open-source intelligence analysts identified the destroyed vehicles as PRP-4 variants—either the “Deuteriy” or “Nard” modification—based on distinctive turret design features visible in the footage.
These vehicles are exceptionally rare on the battlefield. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Moscow’s forces have lost at least four PRP-4 “Deuteriy” and four “Nard” variants, one of which was previously captured intact by Ukrainian troops.
Losing two in a single engagement marks one of the largest documented setbacks for this class of vehicle.

The PRP-4 (Podvizhny Razvedyvatelny Punkt) is a Soviet- and Russian-made mobile artillery reconnaissance post developed on the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle chassis.
Designed to spot enemy targets and adjust artillery fire, it features a rotating turret equipped with a 7.62 mm machine gun for self-defense.
The vehicle carries an array of reconnaissance instruments—including the 1PN59 day sight, 1PN61 night sight, and the 1RL133-1 radar, capable of detecting moving targets at significant distances. At night, the PRP-4 can recognize objects up to 3 km (1.8 mi) away.

Its 1D11M-1 laser rangefinder allows distance measurement from 100 m to 10 km, a marked improvement over earlier PRP-3 models.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces destroyed a rare Russian long-range multiple launch rocket system, likely the modernized Tornado-S.
