Russian forces are allegedly advancing in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region as part of efforts to establish a so-called "buffer zone" on Ukrainian territory, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed, according to Russian state media Tass on June 9.

The statement aligns with Moscow’s broader narrative asserting control over Ukrainian territories, including the Donetsk region, which Russia claimed to have annexed in September 2022.

However, the head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, later refuted these claims in a Telegram post.

Kovalenko stated that there is no Russian offensive taking place in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

According to the head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, reports of a supposed Russian offensive in Dnipropetrovsk region are false. He emphasized that the Russian statements, including those made by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, are yet another information provocation with no connection to reality.

Earlier, the Institute for the Study of War estimated that, at the current pace of Russian territorial gains and personnel losses, it would take approximately 91 years for Moscow to fully occupy the area designated as a "buffer zone" by Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev and President Vladimir Putin.

The assessment comes as Russian officials continue to promote plans for expanding territorial control in Ukraine.
