Russian Guided Bomb Strike Seriously Damages Kherson’s Main Heating Plant

Russian forces struck the Kherson Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP) with a guided aerial bomb on August 26, causing serious damage to the facility, Ukraine’s state-owned energy company Naftogaz reported.
According to Naftogaz, the Kherson CHP plant serves as the primary source of heating for the city and sustained significant damage in the attack.

“The extent of the damage will be assessed as soon as the security situation allows. We are coordinating further actions with the local authorities,” said Serhii Fedorenko, acting chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
The company stressed that the Kherson CHP plant, which is part of the Naftogaz Group, is a civilian facility whose primary function is to provide heating to residents of the city.
The latest strike follows a series of attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure in Kherson in recent weeks. On August 10, Russian airstrikes hit critical infrastructure in the city, disrupting electricity and water supplies across several districts.
The attacks partially cut power to the Central, Dnipro, and Korabel districts, prompting emergency crews to assess the damage and carry out repairs needed to restore essential services.
Less than two weeks later, on August 23, a Russian drone strike sparked a fire at a Ukrainian Red Cross warehouse in Kherson, damaging or destroying humanitarian supplies valued at approximately $626,000.
The Ukrainian Red Cross said the warehouse contained supplies intended to help communities prepare for the upcoming autumn and winter season, as well as emergency materials used to assist residents following Russian attacks.
