Ukraine Pledges to Exhume Victims of the Volyn Tragedy With Poland’s Assistance
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced that Ukraine has agreed to facilitate search and exhumation operations on its territory. This statement followed a meeting with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on November 26, during which the decision was formalized through a jointly agreed declaration.
"Currently, within the framework of the joint Ukrainian-Polish working group under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture of Poland and Ukraine, we are developing practical mechanisms for conducting search and exhumation works," stated Andriy Sybiha.
Minister Sybiha also stressed the importance of mutual understanding between the two nations.
"Every family has the right to honor the memory of their ancestors," Sybiha added.
As part of the meeting, the two sides agreed on the adoption of a declaration concerning the exhumation of the victims of the Volyn tragedy, according to Polish news agency PAP.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on the day's decisions following the evening meeting between the foreign ministers of Poland and Ukraine via social media.
"This is the key to full reconciliation between our nations, so necessary at this dramatic moment in our shared history," the Prime Minister wrote.
