Ukraine has proposed to the United States that upcoming peace negotiations be delayed and the location for the meeting be reconsidered.

The request follows shifting international attention toward the escalating situation in the Middle East, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on March 5.

The trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia was originally planned to take place between March 5 and March 9. Zelenskyy explained that the timing depended on global developments.

"Now there is another war in the world in the Middle East. We spoke with the American side—because they are the party inviting Ukraine and Russia to the meeting—about a possible change of venue and postponing the meeting for some time because of the war in the Middle East," the President stated.

Despite the potential delay in high-level talks, Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency of humanitarian issues. He expressed hope that a previously discussed prisoner swap would still move forward.

"The exchange of prisoners of war is always an important moment, it is a positive for families. We very much hope that in the coming days we will be able to start this exchange process," he said.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had announced that a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia was scheduled for early March.

This followed a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, where both leaders discussed the framework for upcoming diplomatic efforts. During the call, which included US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the teams worked to advance negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy had emphasized that these discussions were intended to serve as a foundation for transitioning to direct negotiations at the leadership level.
