Operators from Ukraine’s 15th Separate Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade have detected and helped destroy a Russian army-level command and communications station known as the Torf-S, according to combat footage released by the brigade on January 15.

The Torf-S is designed to provide stable, direct communications between military units at distances of at least 150 kilometers, as well as to establish radio-relay and tropospheric communication links stretching up to 500–560 kilometers through multiple relay points.

According to Ukrainian forces, the system’s operational limitations played a key role in its destruction. The Torf-S can function only while stationary, leaving it vulnerable once detected.

After the brigade identified the location of the high-value communications node, friendly units carried out a coordinated strike that destroyed the station.

The loss of such a system represents a significant setback for Russian command-and-control capabilities, particularly given its role in maintaining long-range, resilient battlefield communications.

Earlier, Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed a Russian P-18-2 “Prima” radar for the first time since the system entered service, marking a significant breakthrough in Ukraine’s campaign against Russia’s air-defense network.
