Ukraine Regains Nearly 90% of Kupiansk, Syrskyi Reports Major Advance

Ukraine’s Armed Forces have reclaimed control over nearly 90% of the city of Kupiansk, according to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. The announcement came during the 32nd Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, where Syrskyi briefed allies on the evolving situation at the front.
Kupiansk, a city in the Kharkiv region near the Russian border, has been a key flashpoint in the ongoing war. Syrskyi said that Ukrainian units conducted “active search-and-strike actions”, successfully driving Russian forces out of most of the city and consolidating Ukrainian positions.

“Thanks to the resilience and precision of our Defense Forces, we’ve regained control over almost nine-tenths of Kupiansk,” Syrskyi stated.
The offensive marks one of Ukraine’s most significant territorial gains in recent months, as both sides face increasing battlefield attrition and worsening winter conditions.
Military analysts say the Ukrainian advance in Kupiansk could help relieve pressure on nearby areas and complicate Russian logistics, though the war remains fluid and unpredictable.
During the virtual meeting with Ukraine’s Western allies, Syrskyi reiterated the need for increased military assistance.
“We are grateful for the continued support, but to secure our skies and strike deeper behind enemy lines, we urgently need more air and missile defense systems, as well as long-range fire capabilities,” he said.
Earlier, it was reported that OSINT analysts and Ukraine’s leadership challenged Russian claims of capturing Kupiansk, showing that large parts of the city remain contested despite advance assertions.
