Ukraine Repatriates Bodies of 909 Fallen Soldiers from Frontlines and Russian Territory

The bodies of 909 Ukrainian soldiers have been returned to Ukraine as part of an ongoing repatriation initiative, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. The return efforts encompassed multiple frontlines and included remains recovered from morgues on Russian-controlled territory.
The fallen were recovered from several key areas of war, including the Kurakhiv, Pokrovsky, Bakhmut, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia directions, as well as morgues located within the Russian territory.

“Investigators and forensic specialists are working to establish identities as quickly as possible,” the Coordination Headquarters confirmed in a statement.
This operation was coordinated by multiple Ukrainian agencies, including the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center under the Security Service, the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, and the State Emergency Service. These bodies worked in collaboration to ensure the dignified return of the deceased.
The International Committee of the Red Cross was acknowledged for its assistance in facilitating the repatriation process.
Special recognition was given to the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for transporting the remains to state-designated institutions. These institutions will coordinate with law enforcement under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and forensic experts in the Ministry of Health to verify the identities of the deceased.
Ukraine has conducted multiple repatriation operations since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Such operations are part of broader humanitarian and military efforts to ensure the return and proper identification of fallen service members.
The Ukrainian government reaffirmed its commitment to honoring those who died in service.
In related news, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a March 26 interview that a key priority for Kyiv during recent US-mediated ceasefire talks in Saudi Arabia was securing the return of Ukrainian children unlawfully deported to Russia.
