Ukraine Reveals 2,244 Children Still Missing Due to Russian Aggression on Day of Remembrance

As of June 4, the Day of Remembrance for Children Killed as a Result of Russia’s Armed Aggression Against Ukraine, the Juvenile Police reported that 631 children have been killed, 1,975 injured, and 2,244 remain missing due to Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
“As of today, more than 2,606 children have suffered due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. 631 young lives have been lost. Over 1,975 children have sustained injuries. Another 2,244 children are considered missing,” the the press service reported.
The police also reported that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has deported or forcibly transferred over 19,000 Ukrainian children. To date, just 1,345 have been returned.
“Each number represents a shattered childhood, broken dreams, and parents left with an unfillable void. But we remember every child. We will not forget. And we will do everything to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable and those still waiting are brought back home,” the Juvenile Police stated.

As part of ongoing efforts to secure the return of deported children, Ukraine submitted a list of 400 names to the Russian side.
“We provided a list of 400 children. They proposed working on the return of about 10,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, noting that the same list had earlier been shared with the Vatican.
During the negotiations, Ukrainian representatives reminded the Russian side that they took 20,000 children. Russian officials reportedly replied, “At most, it’s a matter of hundreds.”
Zelenskyy called this a critical development, stating: “It is important to record the fact that they confirmed they had taken children.”
Earlier, during the second round of peace talks in Istanbul, Russia’s chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky reportedly dismissed Ukraine’s demand for the return of deported children with a mocking remark: “Don’t put on a show for bleeding-heart European old ladies.”
Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation officially submitted a list of deported Ukrainian children during the talks.
