Ukraine Sends 500 Tons of Wheat Flour as Humanitarian Aid to Syria
Ukraine sent 500 tons of wheat flour to Syria as part of its ‘Grain From Ukraine’ humanitarian program, announced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on X on December 27.
“As promised, we are supporting the Syrian people in their time of need,” Zelenskyy wrote. “500 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat flour are already on their way to Syria as part of our ‘Grain From Ukraine’ humanitarian program in cooperation with the WFP.”
The wheat flour will be distributed to 33,250 families—approximately 167,000 people—over the coming weeks. Each 15-kilogram package can sustain a family of five for a month, according to Zelenskyy.
The Ukrainian president expressed hope for Syria’s recovery, saying, “We wish Syria and its people safety, stability, and recovery. We know the true value of these things.”
Earlier, Zelenksyy announced that Ukraine is prepared to assist Syria in stabilizing and rebuilding after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Following the fall of the Assad regime, Syria continues to grapple with a severe food crisis. According to the World Food Programme, over 12 million Syrians—more than half the population—are currently food insecure, with 2.9 million at risk of starvation.
