Zelenskyy Pledges Ukraine’s Support for Syria’s Rebuilding Post-Assad
Ukraine is prepared to assist Syria in stabilizing and rebuilding after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced during a meeting of the Commander-in-Chief’s Staff on Monday, December 23.
According to a statement shared on the President’s official Telegram channel, the discussion focused on strategic planning for Ukraine’s engagement with Syria, emphasizing regional stability and the withdrawal of Russian forces.
“Today, we defined our strategy and specific steps. Ukraine is committed to stabilizing the situation in Syria and the region as a whole, supporting efforts led by our international partners,” Zelenskyy stated.
The meeting included briefings from Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, the Main Directorate of Intelligence, and the ministers of defense and foreign affairs. President Zelenskyy underscored that removing Russian military presence from Syria is essential for the security of the Syrian people and the broader region.
He also expressed gratitude to nations and leaders working to help Syria recover and rebuild effective state institutions. Ukraine, he confirmed, is ready to contribute to food security efforts and has already made the necessary decisions to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.
“Ukraine stands ready to collaborate with representatives of the Syrian people to address the errors of Assad’s regime, including its policies toward Ukraine and Europe,” Zelenskyy said.
During the same meeting, the Commander-in-Chief’s Staff discussed the evolving military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. Ukraine’s Armed Forces Commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported on the situation at the front lines, particularly in the context of the Kursk operation.
Zelenskyy highlighted risks of North Korea supplying additional troops and military equipment to Russia. Preliminary intelligence suggests that over 3,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed or wounded in operations in Russia’s Kursk region.
“The growing cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang increases the risk of destabilization around the Korean Peninsula and adjacent regions,” Zelenskyy warned.
He further stressed that the transfer of advanced military knowledge and technology from Russia poses a global threat. “The cost of restoring stability will always outweigh the cost of effective pressure on those who destabilize and destroy lives,” the President concluded.
