Ukrainian forces have regained control of roughly 400 square kilometers of territory and eight settlements during an ongoing offensive operation in the southern operational zone, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said following a frontline visit.
Syrskyi said Ukrainian troops are continuing both defensive and offensive operations along one of the most contested sectors of the front, where Russian forces maintain sustained pressure through artillery strikes, drones, armored vehicles, and small assault groups attempting infiltration.

“I am working directly on the directions where combat missions are being carried out in the southern operational zone,” Syrskyi said, describing a recent working trip to frontline units.
During the visit, he met with commanders from formations actively advancing as well as units holding defensive positions along a key frontline sector. According to Syrskyi, discussions focused on battlefield progress, operational challenges, and immediate steps needed to strengthen both defense and logistics.
He emphasized that maintaining stable supply chains remains critical to sustaining momentum, highlighting evacuation of wounded personnel, uninterrupted ammunition deliveries, and technical support for combat units as essential components of operational resilience.

Despite the difficult battlefield conditions, Ukrainian forces are not only holding positions but also advancing.
“Since the end of January this year, formations of the Air Assault Forces together with adjacent units have restored control over 400 square kilometers of territory and eight settlements on the Oleksandrivsk direction,” Syrskyi stated.
The commander described the situation as complex, noting that Russian troops continue attempts to break Ukrainian lines using dispersed assault groups supported by artillery and unmanned systems.
During the trip, Syrskyi personally awarded servicemembers from the 82nd and 95th Air Assault Brigades, praising their “courage, resilience, and professionalism in combat.”

He added that Ukrainian troops remain highly motivated despite constant combat pressure.
“Our plan remains unchanged: effective execution of assigned missions while preserving the lives and health of our defenders, strengthening defensive capability, and expanding operational capacity across every sector of the front,” Syrskyi said.
The reported gains represent one of the more significant localized advances in recent months, suggesting Ukraine is attempting to combine defensive stability with selective offensive actions aimed at gradually improving battlefield positions rather than pursuing large-scale breakthrough operations.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces (DShV) officially confirmed a major offensive operation currently underway on the Oleksandrivsk axis. The high-stakes mission is designed to shatter Russian plans for an advance into the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
