Netherlands Allocates Over €3 Billion for Ukraine’s Defense in 2027

The Netherlands plans to allocate over €3 billion ($3.46 billion) in military assistance to Ukraine in 2027.

Key funding focus areas include maintaining and repairing previously supplied hardware, delivering unmanned aerial systems, and strengthening air defense capabilities.
Officials noted that sustained support remains essential given the frequency of ongoing strikes during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Alongside external assistance, the Dutch government is expanding its domestic defense sector. Around €14.1 billion ($16.28 billion) in 2027 will go toward procurement, infrastructure, innovation, and equipment maintenance.
The investments aim to enhance anti-drone tech, missile defense, and ammunition stockpiles. The Dutch government previously established a baseline to maintain roughly €3 billion ($3.46 billion) in annual military aid for Ukraine from 2027 through 2029.
Previously, the Netherlands announced a €500 million ($543 million) military aid package for Ukraine focused on strengthening its air defense capabilities with American-made systems.
This decision made the Netherlands the first NATO member to directly finance US weapons, specifically supplying components and missiles for the Patriot system as part of bilateral support.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the aid agreement resulted from a conversation with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof following the NATO summit in The Hague, while Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans emphasized the urgent need to deliver the air defense equipment amid intensifying Russian strikes.
